Weekend Rock Question: What Is the Best Ramones Album?

After the recent death of Tommy Ramone, there no longer any surviving members of the original Ramones. Still, the punk pioneers remain as popular as ever: In 2003, they were the subject of the stellar documentary End of the Century: The Story of the Ramones, but this week there's news that another doc, a play, a book and maybe even a Martin Scorsese movie are all in the works.

Now we have a question for you: What is your single favorite Ramones album? Most people are attracted to the first five studio albums, but do not overlook 1984's Too Tough To Die, their 1995 farewell disc ¡Adios Amigos! and their many live albums, including the immortal It's Alive. Vote for whichever album you want, but please only vote once and only for a single selection.

Flashback: Kellie Pickler Breaks Down During Song About Mom

When American Idol contestant Kellie Pickler began her way to a sixth place finish during the show's fifth season in 2006, her Southern sweetness — and occasionally comical remarks — quickly helped make her a fan favorite. But there was also an undercurrent of drama and sadness to the young singer, which imbued her songs with refreshing emotion and sometimes disarming intensity.

Born in Albemarle, North Carolina, Pickler's father was in and out of jail frequently during her childhood. Pickler's mother alleged that her husband had been abusive to her, which led her to abandon Kellie at two years old, leaving her to be raised by her grandparents. When Pickler's debut album, Small Town Girl, was released in October 2006, it contained "I Wonder," a song she co-wrote with Chris Lindsey, Aimee Mayo and Karyn Rochelle. The heart-wrenching tune, which addresses the singer's feelings about her non-existent relationship with her mother, was released as the second single from Small Town Girl.

At the 2007 CMA Awards, where she was nominated for the Horizon (Best New Artist) award, Pickler, in a stunning low-cut red gown, remained remarkably composed throughout most of the song, even as she sang the lyrics, "Did you think I didn't need you here, to hold my hand, to dry my tears." However, by the time she sings, "Forgiveness is such a simple word, but it's so hard to do when you've been hurt," the then-21-year-old can no longer keep her feelings hidden. As the audience cheers her through the final chorus, Pickler lets a flood of memories — and perhaps even a sense of some of the healing she would experience through her success to come — wash over her. It's an unguarded, unscripted moment that beautifully illustrates the power music has to reach a deeper, more personal place.

Lee Ann Womack, John Legend Meet at 'Crossroads'

Nashville is growing on John Legend. Following his June performance with Hunter Hayes and Jennifer Nettles at the CMT Music Awards, the R&B star is headed back to Music City for another country collaboration. He'll team up with Lee Ann Womack for an episode of CMT's Crossroads, the unique performance series that features a country artist and an artist from a different genre trading lines on one another's hits.

"CMT asked me to do Crossroads with John Legend... a singer's singer, a man who blurs boundaries. I'm honored — This is gonna be awesome, and who knows what kind of hybrid we'll create?" Womack posted on her Facebook page today.

The two Grammy winners are set to film the show on a soundstage just south of Nashville early next month. It will debut at 10:00p.m. ET on September 26th, just three days after the release of the country singer's new album, The Way I'm Livin'. The 13-track project is her first new set of tunes in seven years, but Womack hasn't lost a beat in her notoriety for delivering songs that push the lyrical envelope yet keep a classic country feel.

"I wanted songs that talked about how life really is: the raw spots, the tough places, the meltdowns and messy parts," she says of the new LP. "Hard, sad, rough… all the stuff people pretend doesn't exist! Because once you embrace that, you can figure out what to do… or not do."

Legend wrapped the North American leg of his All of Me Tour last night. Its namesake song hit Number One on both iTunes' and Billboard's all-genre charts and has sold more than 4 million downloads. He tapped Hunter Hayes to arrange a new version of the song for their CMT performance. (See a behind-the-scenes video of the making of their collaboration here.) Legend is now on a short break from the road before taking his tour to Asia in late September.

CMT Crossroads: John Legend and Lee Ann Womack will be the 51st episode in the original series. Recent Crossroads pairings were Katy Perry with Kacey Musgraves, One Republic and Dierks Bentley, and the Band Perry with Fall Out Boy.

Hear Evanescence Singer Amy Lee's Electronica Deep Dive 'Push the Button'

Three years after the release of her group's most recent album, Evanescence frontwoman Amy Lee has offered up her first solo song, "Push the Button" – an ethereal, electronica-infused quasi-pop track with no hints of her nu-metal past. The tune will appear on Aftermath, the soundtrack to the movie War Story (Lee recorded the movie's score with cellist and composer Dave Eggar), and was released this week.

Earlier this year, Lee told MTV that the film's director, Mark Jackson, had a hard time finding the right song for a War Story scene, so Lee decided to write one herself – that tune became "Push the Button." "It's very different for me, it's electronic," she said. "I did it all myself, which was crazy, because I'm used to engineering and writing and mixing demos in my house, but being responsible for that being the end product was a new challenge for me. It was like 'This is it, I'm mixing this.'"

"I wanted it to be completely different," Lee said of her approach on the soundtrack in a recent Rolling Stone interview. "I didn't want it to be like Evanescence just because I've flexed that muscle so much, I wanted people to see different sides of me ... It's one of my first chances to show another side and this definitely plays with a lot of the same emotions I played with in Evanescence, but instrumentally, it's not trying to be mainstream."

Moreover, she described the sounds on the album as being "a lot more like music I listen to now." "One's like an Arabic, weird thing, one's a sexy dance song and the other is – I don't even know what it is, it's electronic," she said. Regarding the "Arabic" song, she clarified that she was not singing in the language, but that the tune had a Middle Eastern feel, musically.

Lee said that she had always wanted to write a score but that the "baggage" of her past persona had gotten in the way. But in the same breath, she also said she felt comfortable with her past in Evanescence. "I never felt like I was playing a role, you just change," she told Rolling Stone. "It's funny, people still talk about 'My Immortal,' and it's wonderful, it's so cool, but I was like 14 or 15 when that was happening. When I wrote 'Bring Me to Life,' I was 19. Imagine the things that you thought and the way that you spoke and things that you did when you were 19 years old."

Blake Shelton Revisits Old Ways for New Album

Blake Shelton put a lot of thought into the cover of his upcoming album, Bringing Back the Sunshine. In stark contrast to his colorful personality, the photo is a moody black and white affair. Rays of sunlight burst through menacing clouds to illuminate a water tower emblazoned with the word "Ada," Shelton's beloved Oklahoma hometown. (See below.)

But what does it all mean? The snapshot seems to be the musical equivalent of a Rorschach test.

"The whole album is searching for parts of me that I think have… not gotten lost along the way, but stuff that I haven't addressed in my music as much as I used to, whether it's drinking songs, heartbreak songs or songs about how people treat you. Things like that," the country superstar tells Rolling Stone Country.

Even though the title, Bringing Back the Sunshine, evokes happy imagery, Shelton says the album is actually grittier than his last two studio offerings, 2011's Red River Blue and 2013's Based on a True Story…, both of which debuted at Number One on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart.

"My last couple of albums have been so positive, because when I made them I was just getting married. It's been in this awesome place," he says. "But after a while, as a country singer, I gotta get back to singing about getting drunk because there's people out there — and I've been one of them — that have had their heart broken, or they've had a tough day at work, or they get stabbed in the back."

In addition to the album's first single, the "screw you" breakup song "Neon Light," the title track also fits Shelton's throwback mentality. He equates "Bringing Back the Sunshine" to "bringing back the country."

"It's the only way to be a little more political about where we are in country music," he says, "and I'm as guilty of it as anybody."

Yet the four-time CMA Male Vocalist of the Year isn't apologizing for any of his 17 Number One singles.

"We're pushing boundaries… and pushing 'em and pushing 'em. And to me, with that title, it's like I'm bringing back some country into this thing."

So to interpret the album cover of streaming sunlight and the Ada water tower? Maybe Shelton's focusing the spotlight on a man who came of age in this small Oklahoma town and is eager to return to his roots.

Bringing Back the Sunshine hits stores September 30. Fans who pre-order the album will instantly receive a digital download of "Neon Light."

Nicki Minaj Gives Drake a Lap Dance in 'Anaconda' Video

Nicki Minaj's new video "Anaconda" is like something from one of Sir Mix-a-Lot's dreams, as a chorus line of women endowed with large posteriors – led by Minaj, of course – flex their butts to her new single. Set in a steamy jungle setting, the song samples "Baby Got Back," the elder rapper's 1992 ode to titanic tush, and features some conspicuously suggestive bananas and even more conspicuous product placement.

The only time a man makes an appearance is when Minaj gives Drake a twerky, jerky lap dance after laughing like a woman possessed. Strangely, amongst all of......

Hunter Hayes to Serve Hits for Tennis Event

When it comes to tennis, Hunter Hayes confesses he's much more of a spectator than an active participant in the game. But for the young multi-instrumentalist, performing at the 19th annual Arthur Ashe Kids' Day, which kicks off the 2014 US Open this Saturday, August 23rd, is a perfect match.

Named for the late tennis legend and humanitarian, Arthur Ashe Kids' Day is the largest single-day, grassroots tennis and entertainment event in the world and helps to promote youth tennis, inspiring children of all ages to develop healthy habits through fun activities.

Motley Crue's Big, Badass Influence on Today's Country

If there was ever any doubt as to how Eighties hard rock influenced contemporary country music, press play on Nashville Outlaws: A Tribute to Mötley Crüe. Released today, the album assembles a cadre of modern country artists to interpret some of the Crüe's biggest songs, along with a smattering of more obscure, deeper cuts from albums like 1997's Generation Swine and 2008's Saints of Los Angeles.

Rascal Flatts handle "Kickstart My Heart," Brantley Gilbert does "Girls, Girls, Girls" and Eli Young Band tackle "Don't Go Away Mad (Just Go Away)" while Florida Georgia Line cover the Red, White & Crüe compilation's......

Watch Lindsay Ell Venture to the Dark Side 'Shut Me Up' Lyric Video

"I'm gonna be a megaphone, telling everybody how you did me wrong, the only switch that I got is on," Lindsay Ell repeats in the breakdown of her latest single, "Shut Me Up." It's a sharp contrast to the Canadian guitar goddess up-and-comer's carefree, puppy love-struck 2013 debut, "Trippin' on Us," which boasted the opening line, "goodbye heartache, catch you on another day."

Well that other day has arrived, as on "Shut Me Up," love is on the rocks and Ell, jilted, is hellbent on letting the world know. But she doesn't sound like she's having any less fun shouting her......

Flashback: U2 Kick Off Their 2000 Tour With a Rare Club Gig

U2 knew they had to make some drastic changes as the 1990s came to an end. Their 1997/98 tour in support of Pop played to stadiums all around the globe, but the disc received mixed reviews and failed to generate a huge hit. And in a few American markets U2 faced something they hadn't seen in years: rows of empty seats.

For their follow-up album they reunited with their old production team of Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno. It was a return to simpler songs that, for lack of a better word, sounded like U2. They called the disc All That......

Brad Paisley Leaks New Song to Outer Space

Brad Paisley has taken his song leaks to new heights: 220 miles above the surface of Earth, to be exact.

The country superstar has spent the last three weeks releasing tracks from his upcoming album, Moonshine in the Trunk, via Twitter, also posting texts and emails from industry powers-that-be asking him to stop. He's even recruited celebrity friends to help leak new music early, including Carrie Underwood, Ludacris, Joan Rivers and wife Kimberly Williams Paisley. Thus, #leakingmoonshine has become a trending topic on Twitter, with fans eagerly awaiting the next track.

Paisley did take to Twitter once again to release "American......

'Roger Waters: The Wall' Doc to Premiere at Toronto Film Fest Next Month

The Toronto International Film Festival will premiere Roger Waters: The Wall, a concert film that the former Pink Floyd singer-songwriter made on various tour dates between 2010 and 2013, when he was playing his former group's 1980 double-album in its entirety, next month. The film is credited to Waters and the tour's fellow creative director, Sean Evans. Benjamin Booker

"Fucking up on a five-year bender," Benjamin Booker growls on "Violent Shiver," a song that sounds something like the Strokes if they'd been suckled on moonshine in a juke joint. A New Orleans-based, Jack White-endorsed 25-yearold with an open sore of a voice and a love of distorted boogie-blues shredding, Booker is grafting new shoots into roots music. On the twisted ballad "Spoon Out My Eyeballs," he croaks, "I would listen to the radio/If I liked songs produced by 40-year-olds in high-tech studios." Then he proves his point with a seizure-inducing rave-up – a flashback to the days when wild-eyed......

Nashville Outlaws: A Tribute to Mötley Crüe

Does the thought of Rascal Flatts covering "Kickstart My Heart" have you buzzing like a visit to Dr. Feelgood's office? Then this down-the-middle Mötley cöuntry compilation was made for you. Unfortunately, few of the 15 featured artists do anything more than rehash their assigned song – often omitting even the slight twang Nashville usually requires. Two exceptions: LeAnn Rimes, who gives a provocative reading of "Smokin' in the Boys Room," and the Mavericks, who ditch country and metal for a track that tries to imagine what salsa could sound like if it were produced by T Bone Burnett.

Space Invader

Gene Simmons has claimed that Ace Frehley doesn't deserve to wear Kiss Kabuki clown paint, but the former Spaceman's first solo LP in five years says otherwise. Sure, the guitars don't always give off Frehley's trademark flames, and there isn't anything as catchy as his '78 solo smash, "New York Groove" – but Space Invader does have a carefree abandon that Kiss' 21st-century LPs have lacked. It also contains any number of lyrics cringe-worthy enough for his old band ("You're lookin' so tight/I'm gonna make you feel just right," from the lubricious "What Every Girl Wants").
